The project involved replacing the 16-inch Nāpili No. 3 WWPS Force Main with approximately 2,000 linear ft of 16-inch DR18 Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC) C905 pipe, including fittings and appurtenances. Excavation, backfill, and connecting to the existing sewer system were performed, along with the restoration of existing improvements. Bypassing the sewer system for the tie-in and other necessary tasks were also completed.
The project presented significant challenges due to the dewatering requirements. To install the new force main below the water table, a dewatering system was implemented using a baker tank and a large pump. The water level was carefully managed during the installation to ensure smooth progress. Importantly, the installation was carried out without road closures and during daylight hours to minimize any inconvenience to residents.
